Learning Activities

Through a variety of practice and performance techniques, learners will perform music with proper tone, intonation, technique and musicality to produce musically balanced performances.
Using music from different periods, learners will demonstrate representative performance practices through technical studies, long tone exercises, and solos.
Through rehearsal and performance experiences, learners will develop stage presence, performance confidence, and increased instrumental technique.
All students registered for credit will perform one or more pieces by memory.

Assessments

Pre - Instructor will assess student’s current ability in the listed criteria and from this assessment will determine which literature is best suited for the semester’s work.
Post - Students will perform before a panel of music instructors. Using feedback from this panel along with his/her own assessment, the instructor will determine how well the students have met the goals established at the beginning of the course. A chart reflecting progress will be completed for each student. Faculty use these jury results to assess at the course level.

Grading guidelines

Learn notes and rhythms on music accurately outside of class through individual practice prior to lessons.
Perform with excellent technical skill by playing or singing in tune, with control, characteristic sound, etc.
Perform with musical sensitivity and expressiveness using correct articulations, phrasing, dynamics, etc.
Respond to instructor’s suggestions.
Demonstrate musical growth from prior lessons.
