ART 2853 - Printmaking II


Description
A continued investigation of the technical and conceptual aspects found in the medium of printmaking. Study will center on in-depth explorations of one or more printmaking processes: relief, intaglio, serigraphy, monotype.

Pre-Requisite
Completion of ART 2843  with a grade greater than or equal to C or consent of instructor. Note: Recommended course to take is ART 1303 - Drawing I

Learning Outcomes
Students completing this course will:

  • Demonstrate mastery of one (or more) printmaking processes while supplementing their ability to experiment, explore and develop personal concepts and imagery.

  • Focused analysis of one process (relief, intaglio, serigraphy,…) yielding a body of work
  • Exploring combinations of traditional processes (collagraph, hybrid prints, etc.)
  • Researching historic printmaker - presenting findings and project based upon inspiration
  • Lithography - using non-toxic plate method

  • Projects will be graded as limited edition sets of prints
  • Artist Statement
  • Creating a body of works for exhibition and curating it in collaboration with others for a group exhibition

Grading guidelines

  • A minimum of 95% of this course’s grade should be in-class printmaking projects with some variation allowed for outside idea/imagery generation toward the finished edition of prints
