ART 2103 - Painting I


Description
A basic creative approach to oil painting that includes color mixing and techniques, still life, landscape and portrait painting.

Pre-Requisite
Completion of ART 1303  with a grade greater than or equal to C.

Learning Outcomes
Students completing this course will:

  • Demonstrate understanding of materials, media, and the mixing and handling of paint.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of perceptual color and color theory.
  • Demonstrate understanding of proper studio safety including waste disposal practices.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of color and value, and drawing form and space at is it applied in painting. 
  • Exhibit understanding of developing a painting through the use of layers, formal matters including composition and the principles of design, and mark-making.
  • Learn basics of the critique process.
