BIOL 1014 - General Biology II

Description
An introductory course that examines the common characteristics of life, such as movement, energy usage, reproduction and responsiveness through study of the diversity of life. The general structural organization and basic physiology of the phyla of the five kingdoms will be considered along with elements of their interdependence (ecology) and change through time (evolution). Three lecture and three lab hours weekly.

Pre-Requisite
Completion of BIOL 1544 with a grade greater than or equal to C.

Students completing this course will:

Apply the scientific method by gathering and analyzing data, drawing conclusions and presenting findings in a written form.

Learning Activities

Courses must, at a minimum, cover the core learning outcomes for each topic.
Lab safety orientation and enforcement of safety protocols is the responsibility of each faculty. Scoring 100% on a mandatory department-provided lab safety quiz is required before students may participate in lab.

Assessments

Lab practical exams are a required part of grading.

Grading Guidelines

At least 50% of the grade should come from proctored work
Lab activities/exams should comprise approximately 25% of the overall grade.
