FREN 2003 - Intermediate French I Description Further development of language skills in French, with attention to reading, composition, and conversation. It includes readings in French literature, culture, and civilization and extensive grammar review. Class is conducted primarily in French.

Learning Outcomes Upon completion of Intermediate French I the students will do the following in these 5 basic skill groups:
Listening
- Understand sentence-length utterances consisting of recombinations of learned vocabulary and grammatical structures.
- Sustain understanding over longer stretches of connected discourse pertinent to course grammar and vocabulary.
Speaking
- Participate in simple conversations
- Ask and answer more difficult questions involving learned material and personal opinions on various topics.
- Continue to practice correct pronunciation of French sounds.
Reading
- Analyze poems or excerpts from fiction, cultural readings and dialogues.
Writing
- Write statements and questions in present, past, and past perfect tenses.
- Produce paragraphs related to personal preference and daily routine.
- Compose an essay in response to a feature-length film in French.
Culture
- Demonstrate expanded knowledge of French culture.
- Discuss primary works of Francophone literature, visual arts, and film.
