GEOG 1003 - Physical Geography

Description
An introductory survey of the various components of the Earth systems and the basic interrelationships among them. Topics of study include the scientific method, interpretation of maps, movements of Earth and seasonal change, the elements of weather and climate, lithospheric components and processes and the effects of physical processes upon various types of regions. Emphasis is on developing a broad perspective of the Earth. A one-hour weekly laboratory will provide students a hands-on experience in completing Earth science actions.

Students completing this course will:

Recognize the four Earth Systems and interrelationships between them.
Recognize the concept of scale (spatial and time), and how it pertains to geography and the Earth Sciences.
Explain Earth’s various physical processes and recognize relationships among them.
Apply a general knowledge base from which to recognize various aspects of the natural environment and explain factors in formation of those features.
Describe a framework of concepts and facts related to physical geography upon which informed decision and judgements affecting the life of the student can be made.
