The primary learning outcome of the A.A. and A.S. is to prepare students to be successful in a four-year degree program. These degrees encompass a liberal arts and sciences core. The curriculum does not focus on particular vocational skills; instead, the aim is to give students a breadth of knowledge, basic analysis, and communication skills necessary to succeed in a variety of situations. The curricula also provide increased knowledge of self and the world from three basic perspectives or domains: Arts & Humanities, Social & Behavioral Science, and Natural Science. Faculty have identified primary learning outcomes associated with each domain. Remedial/developmental (zero level) courses must be used for placement purposes only and can’t be used to fulfill any degree or certificate requirement. Note:

** GEOG 1003 - Physical Geography cannot count twice in a degree as both a lab science and social science. Honors and Global Studies courses will meet degree requirements where applicable.

Directed Electives

Students must select either Math and Science Directed Electives or Non-Stem Directed Electives. These two options cannot be combined for degree completion. Please consult your advisor

(8 Hours) Based on Transfer Program (consult advisor), choose courses from these Fine Arts/Social/Behavioral Science/Business disciplines: ACCT, ANTH, ARAB, ARHS, ART, BUTR, CHED, CHIN, CIED, CISQ, CMJS, COMM, ECON, ENGL (non-developmental), ETEC, FREN, GEOG, GERM, HIST, HLSC, HUMN, ITAL, JOUR, LEGL, MUAP, MUSI, OSIM, PHIL, PLSC, PSYC, SCWK, SOCI, SPAN, THTR Eight credit hours will fulfill the non-stem electives and any additional hours will count as Approved Electives

APPROVED ELECTIVES - Select 0-17 elective credits. Consult with an advisor to select courses not previously taken based on your intended transfer program. These courses can be from the list of disciplines in the directed electives or an y 1000-2000 level college-credit class listed in the college catalog.

Note: Courses not in ACTs Transfer System may not transfer to all 4-years college or university

15 credit hours are required in residence at NWACC to graduate

Possible Placement Requirements

These courses are for developing college level skills.

NWACC strongly recommends that students enroll in English and math preparatory courses within the first two semesters.

These hours will not fulfill any degree requirements at NWACC. These courses will not transfer to a four year institution.
