Health Sciences, A.A.S. - Degree Plan

60 credit Hours


The Associate of Applied Science in Health Sciences prepares students to enter direct care careers and to apply (transfer) to a variety of health care training programs. The degree provides the foundation needed to understand modern health care delivery, and includes a base in general education requirement options as well as a science core.

 

** College Algebra and Anatomy and Physiology I&II must be completed within 5 years of acceptance into the nursing program.

Mathematics Select 3 Hours


College Algebra can be met with one of the following courses:

Social Sciences (6 Hours)


All 6 hours are required for the AAS in Health Sciences and students transferring to other institutions.

For students planning to apply for:

  • Nursing: PSYC 2003  and PSYC 2103  are required 
  • PHTA and RT: Only PSYC 2003  is required 
  • HIM requires 3 credit hours for social science

Computer Science (3 Hours) Choose 1


Note:


All 16 hours of Lab Sciences are required for the AAS in Health Sciences

Transfer students should take all 16 hours or Lab Sciences to transfer to other institutions

AAS in Nursing and Respiratory Therapy degrees require all 16 hours of Lab Sciences.

AAS in Paramedic Sciences and HIM do not require MBIO 2014 

Approved Electives (8 Hours)


Select 8 elective credits. Consult with the Health Professions Advisor to select courses not previously taken based on the NWACC program you plan to apply for or for your intendedtransfer program. These courses can be from following subjects: ACCT, AERO,AFLS, AHSC, BLDG, BADM, BLAW, BUTR, CHED,CIED, CINE, CISM, CISQ, CMJS, COMM CST, DNTA, DRFT,ECTC, EMTA, ENTR, ETEC, FDST, GEOS, GLST,GNEG, HIM, HLSC, HVAC, INTB, JOUR, LEGL,MILS, MTCM, MEEG, MGMT, MPAX, MUAP,NTWK, OSHA, OSIM, PEAC, PROG, SCWK, THTR, TRLG

Possible Placement Requirements


These courses are for developing college level skills.

NWACC strongly recommends that students enroll in English and math preparatory courses within the first two semesters.

These hours will not fulfill any degree requirements at NWACC. These courses will not transfer to a four year institution.
